Ebyte NA111-M Firmware Vulnerabilities

Source context: this article examines information published by the source on August 27, 2026. This site’s publication date is shown separately. Check the latest vendor guidance before acting.

What the vulnerability is

A series of thirteen vulnerabilities have been identified in the Ebyte NA111-M gateway. These flaws primarily center on systemic failures in authentication, authorization, and data protection within the device’s web management interface and configuration utility.

Critical exposures include missing authentication for administrative functions (CVE-2026-73125), use of client-side authentication logic that can be bypassed (CVE-2026-71187), and weak authentication in the vendor configuration utility (CVE-2026-73819). Additionally, the device transmits sensitive information—including MQTT credentials and control traffic—in cleartext (CVE-2026-69658, CVE-2026-73809) and stores administrative credentials in an unprotected format within exported configuration files (CVE-2026-77975).

Other identified risks include Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), lack of rate limiting for authentication attempts, and the use of deprecated cryptographic hashing algorithms.

Exposure and applicability

These vulnerabilities specifically affect the Ebyte NA111-M running firmware version 9013-2-17.

Exposure paths vary by vulnerability:
* Remote Network Access: Attackers with network access to the web management interface can exploit missing authentication or bypass client-side logic to gain administrative control.
* Adjacent Network Access: The vendor configuration utility is susceptible to unauthenticated disruptive actions (such as factory resets) and credential theft via exported files if the attacker is on the same adjacent network.
* Network Traffic Interception: Because MQTT traffic and management communications are sent in cleartext, any actor capable of intercepting network traffic can capture session tokens and credentials.

Remediation priorities

As of August 27, 2026, Ebyte has acknowledged the flaws and stated a patch was under development; however, no official patch is currently available. In the absence of a vendor fix, our analysis prioritizes compensating controls to reduce exposure:

  1. Network Isolation: Isolate all affected NA111-M devices behind firewalls. Control system networks should be strictly separated from business networks to prevent lateral movement.
  2. Restrict Management Access: Ensure the web management interface is not accessible via the public internet. Limit access to a dedicated, secure management VLAN.
  3. Secure Remote Access: If remote management is required, mandate the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to encapsulate cleartext traffic and provide an additional layer of authentication before reaching the device.

How to validate remediation

Because no patch exists, validation must focus on verifying the effectiveness of the compensating controls rather than checking firmware versions:
* Connectivity Testing: Use network scanning tools from a non-authorized segment (e.g., the business network or external internet) to verify that the device’s management ports are unreachable.
* Traffic Analysis: Use a packet analyzer on the local segment to confirm that administrative traffic is encapsulated within an encrypted tunnel (VPN) and not traversing the rest of the network in cleartext.
* Access Control Audit: Review firewall rules to ensure only specific, authorized IP addresses can communicate with the device’s management interface.

Limits and open questions

These recommendations are designed to limit exposure and reduce the likelihood of exploitation; they do not remove the underlying vulnerabilities. Residual risk remains high for any attacker who successfully bypasses network perimeters or gains access to the internal management segment.

It remains unknown when a verified patch will be released, as subsequent coordination requests to the vendor have gone unanswered. Until a patch is deployed and verified, the device remains fundamentally insecure at the firmware level.
