CWP Control Web Panel OS Command Injection (CVE-2025-48703)

Historical catalog analysis: CISA added this entry on November 04, 2025. The entry reflects catalog information retrieved on August 31, 2026, not a snapshot archived on the inclusion date. Check current vendor guidance before acting.

What the vulnerability is

CVE-2025-48703 is an OS command injection vulnerability (CWE-78) affecting CWP Control Web Panel (formerly CentOS Web Panel). The flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker to achieve remote code execution by submitting shell metacharacters within the t_total parameter of a filemanager changePerm request. To successfully exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must possess a valid non-root username.

Exposure and applicability

This vulnerability applies to infrastructure owners utilizing CWP Control Web Panel for server management. The exposure path is remote and unauthenticated, though it is constrained by the requirement that a specific non-root username be known to the actor. Systems exposing the control panel interface to the public internet or untrusted networks are at higher risk of discovery and exploitation.

Remediation priorities

Our analysis suggests prioritizing remediation based on the following hierarchy:

  1. Vendor Patching: The primary corrective action is to apply mitigations as specified in the vendor’s official changelog. This should be the first priority for all affected assets.
  2. Access Restriction: Until patching is verified, restricting access to the control panel interface via network-level ACLs or VPNs could reduce the likelihood of unauthenticated remote attempts.
  3. Account Audit: Reviewing non-root usernames created on the system may help defenders understand the potential attack surface, as these usernames are a prerequisite for exploitation.

How to validate remediation

Verification must move beyond simple version checks. To ensure exposure is reduced, defenders should:
* Cross-Reference Changelogs: Confirm that the installed version specifically includes the fix referenced in the vendor’s changelog for CVE-2025-48703.
* Configuration Audit: Verify that the filemanager changePerm request handler no longer processes shell metacharacters in the t_total parameter.

Limits and open questions

While patching addresses the specific injection point, residual risk remains if other parameters within the file manager or similar administrative modules share the same lack of input sanitization. It is currently unknown whether this vulnerability has been leveraged by ransomware campaigns. Additionally, while CISA has mandated a remediation deadline for federal agencies, non-federal organizations must determine their own priority based on their specific exposure and risk tolerance.
