TeleMessage TM SGNL Core Dump Exposure (CVE-2025-48928)

Historical catalog analysis: CISA added this entry on July 01, 2025. The entry reflects catalog information retrieved on August 31, 2026, not a snapshot archived on the inclusion date. Check current vendor guidance before acting.

What the vulnerability is

CVE-2025-48928 is a vulnerability in TeleMessage TM SGNL involving the exposure of core dump files to an unauthorized control sphere (CWE-528). Specifically, a JSP application within the product allows heap content—which functions similarly to a core dump—to be exposed. This exposed data may include passwords that were previously transmitted over HTTP.

Exposure and applicability

This vulnerability affects organizations deploying TeleMessage TM SGNL. The primary exposure path is through the JSP application’s handling of heap memory. Because this memory can contain plaintext credentials sent via HTTP, an unauthorized actor gaining access to these dumps could obtain administrative or user passwords, potentially leading to further unauthorized access within the environment.

Remediation priorities

Based on the inclusion of this vulnerability in CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, remediation should be prioritized as a high-urgency task. Our analysis suggests the following priority sequence:

  1. Vendor Mitigation: Identify and apply official mitigations provided by TeleMessage. This is the primary path for reducing exposure.
  2. Cloud Service Alignment: For organizations utilizing this product via cloud services, align remediation efforts with BOD 22-01 guidance to ensure provider-side vulnerabilities are addressed.
  3. Product Decommissioning: In scenarios where vendor mitigations are unavailable or cannot be located, the most effective way to eliminate the risk is to discontinue use of the affected product.

How to validate remediation

Verification must move beyond simple version checks, as a deployed fix does not always guarantee that sensitive data has been purged from existing heap dumps or that the exposure path is closed.

Defenders should verify remediation by:
* Confirming Mitigation Application: Validating through configuration audits or vendor-provided tools that the specific mitigation steps have been executed.
* Access Control Validation: Verifying that the JSP application no longer permits unauthorized access to heap content or core dump files.
* Traffic Analysis: While not a complete fix for the core dump issue, ensuring that passwords are no longer transmitted over HTTP reduces the likelihood of new sensitive data entering the heap.

Limits and open questions

There is currently uncertainty regarding whether this vulnerability has been leveraged by ransomware campaigns. Additionally, it remains unclear if removing HTTP traffic entirely prevents the exposure of previously stored data within existing dumps. Residual risk persists if mitigations are applied but previous core dumps remain accessible in logs or backup storage.
